New Programme Items and Increasing Internationality

Preparations for the BOE 2018 trade fair in Dortmund are proceeding at full speed

BOE, the international trade fair for experience marketing, will take place at the ‘Messe Dortmund’ Exhibition Centre on 10 and 11 January in 2018. About 480 exhibitors will present themselves to trade visitors from event agencies and companies. The trade fair offers a high-quality accompanying programme of lectures. The titles of the offered topics are: SAFETY & SECURITY FORUM, MICE FORUM, CAREER HUB, ACTS ON STAGE and DIGITAL FORUM. A special focus will be on event security and catering in 2018.

The European Street Food Conference took place at the Westfalenhallen Convention Centre in the run-up to BOE 2017 – in 2018, the event will be part of the programme of the international trade fair for experience marketing. “BOE is the trade fair which perfectly incorporates the Street Food Conference,” was how initiator and restaurateur Ulf Tassilo Münch explained the scheduling. “We want to bring street food and event together.” Service providers, opinion leaders and innovators from the international street food scene will meet at BOE 2018 to participate in lectures, discussions and workshops, to exchange ideas, learn from each other and set the course for the future. A further BOE highlight in 2018 will again be the presentation of the BEA / INA Awards for creative and successful live communication at the trade fair.

BOE will also be more international in 2018. After the premiere of the Netherlands Pavilion in 2017, there will be country pavilions for the showcased countries, The Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria, next year. Foreign companies and MICE destinations will demonstrate their efficiency and be available for cross-border projects. Furthermore, foreign delegations have already announced their participation in 2018, amongst them a delegation from India. There will also be a networking meeting with representatives from international associations and the event industry on the evening before the start of the trade fair.

The Forums in 2018
The topics of the SAFETY & SECURITY FORUM at BOE 2018 will include health & safety at work, event law, safety / security consultancy and concepts, insurance and access control. Experts will offer lectures and workshops under the patronage of the Federal Association of Event Security (Bundesverband Veranstaltungssicherheit - bvvs) and in cooperation with BOE and VPLT, the Association for Media and Event Technology.

Digitalisation is becoming increasingly important in the event sector. It will drastically change the sector. Renowned speakers will examine trends, such as the digital change, mobile communications, and virtual realities, and opportunities and feasibilities for event organisers at the DIGITAL FORUM. Various start-up companies will also present their ideas, approaches and technologies.

The main topic of the CAREER HUB will be the shortage of skilled labour in the event sector. The Institute for Communications Studies (Studieninstitut für Kommunikation), the strategic training partner of BOE 2018, together with leading minds in science and business, will answer the question of what companies and agencies can do to find qualified staff and keep successful staff. Prof. Dr. Cornelia Zanger from the Technical University of Chemnitz will present the latest research results. Her credo: “It is no longer sufficient to employ bachelor’s and master’s degree graduates straight from the university. Specialist knowledge is increasingly required.”
The markets are facing far-reaching changes. Many industries, companies and associations are reinventing themselves and their events. The MICE FORUM wants to leave worn-out paths, give concrete ideas and give encouragement for trying out new concepts.

Last but not least, visitors will experience, within the scope of the ACTS ON STAGE highlight on both trade fair days, four shows with potential stage artists to give them ideas for their next event, regardless of whether the stage artists are party bands, presenters, comedians, musicians, ventriloquists or illusionists. The workshop programme in Hall 8 will be aimed at event organisers on the first trade fair day and artists on the following trade fair day. What should the dramaturgy of a perfect event be like? When do I have to start the planning of an event? How can the communication between artists and organisers be improved? These questions and other topics will be a focus of the workshops.

The visitors will seek and obtain expert knowledge at BOE 2018 and benefit from conceptual success stories and new contacts. Projects and budgets can be discussed at the BOE trade fair right at the start of the year. Technical sponsor of BOE is the FAMAB Communications Association.
